A blonde woman drummed her finely manicured nails on
the arm of an almost throne-like chair. The room was dark, lit with a dark red
flickering fire. It contained only the chair and a large table littered with
maps and papers.
The woman
checked a pocket watch she clutched in her hand. A door opened, and a man
strode in. “Beg your pardon, mistress, but—“
“You are three
quarters of an hour late.” Her accent was crisp and very British.
“Well, the time
stream—“
The stammering
man and I both froze when she flicked her eyes up. They were blood red. The
woman was a zombie.
“I want no
excuses, Hubert. Report, now, before I decide to roast your heart on a spit.”
Wow, graphic.
As the man
tried to put his words in order, I got a better look at him. He was the guy who
had been staring at me in the coffee house. Why was I dreaming about a weird
lady and the zombie from the coffee house?
“Well,
mistress, I saw him with the mage known as Sai. Sai is one of her closest
confidants.”
“Yes, thank
you, I know who Sai is,” she snapped. “Did you hear what they were talking
about?”
“No, my lady,
the mage had put up a shield.”
The woman
smirked. “That is as good as overhearing him say it. I believe this boy is our
mage heir.” Twirling a strand of hair on her finger, she mused, “But why use
the one from the future?”
“Perhaps the
mage gift skipped this generation.”
The woman’s
eyes snapped to him, as if she had forgotten he was there. “Why are you still
here? Get out of my sight!”
The man bowed
himself out.
She smirked.
“Well, Tyren, you have found the mage heir. Let us see if you can keep him.”
n
Blue danced around me as my world fell away and a
new one took its place. I stood in the streets of London at twilight. I sighed. Since my watch
was locked on Tyren, I should be near her. I looked around. Nope. No Tyren.
Hey, at least I hadn’t landed on top of her in the middle of a fight, again.
I took a step out of the alley I was standing in.
Directly in front of me was a large house. All the windows were dark, which was
a little odd, and slightly scary. Maybe the owners were on vacation.
Still no Tyren in sight. I knew there were
creatures around, but I couldn’t see them. On a random whim, I pulled out the
goggles Sai had given to me. It was dark, so no one could see me, right? With
that, I tugged them down over my eyes.
Immediately, the world swarmed with life. Several
glowing things were crouched behind things around the area in front of the
house. One, a glowing blue blob stood out to me. That royal blue was the color
of Tyren’s flame. On impulse, I strode over to it. As I grew closer, I easily
recognized her familiar shape.
I called out to her. “Hey, Tyren!”
She spun and threw something shiny and pointy at
me. Shrieking, I threw up a shield and yelled, “It’s me, it’s me, it’s me!”
Opening my eyes, I lowered my arms. A knife floated
frozen in the air right in front of my face. I let out a little squeak. Tyren
flicked her wrist, and the knife returned to her.
I stormed over to her. “Why did you throw a knife
at me?!” I yelled.
She shushed me and pulled me down behind the crates
we were standing by. “Instinct, sorry.”
“I’ll forgive you, since you stopped the knife. But
don’t let it happen again.”
She chuckled. “Keep down, we are reconnoitering
this house.”
“Cool. I have a question. Why do you glow blue in
my goggles?”
“Was it a royal blue?”
I nodded.
“What you are seeing is my aura.”
“Your what-a?”
“My aura. It is the glow of life that every living
creature has. An aura is unique to each individual. It can tell a little about
its owner.”
“Cool! What does my aura look like?”
“Your aura is a light blue. It is a strong color,
indicating your power and personality. It is also very human.”
“How can you tell?”
She tapped the goggles that perched on top of her
head. “Sai created these so that we can see auras. The rest I know from the
rest of my senses. Besides, your magic is light blue.”
Oh, I got it know. A person’s magic manifested
itself in the color of one’s aura. It was like that with Tyren’s flame, and the
blue that buzzed around me when I was time-traveling. Now that I thought about
it, my shields and light were light blue as well.
“Now, be quiet,” she hissed, even though she had
been the one who was talking.
After several minutes of silence, I could no longer
hold my question. “So, what are we doing?”
She sighed. “I told you. We are—“
“Okay, yeah, but why?”
“We have information stating that the accursed ones
are keeping several of our captured officers in this house.”
I glanced around. “This looks kind of small for a
rescue squad.”
“I have been watching this house for the past few
days. They have no more than ten accursed ones guarding the house at one time.”
I frowned. That sounded way too inviting. “You sure
it’s not a trap?”
“No. That’s why we have not moved in.”
A figure dropped next to Tyren. “We’ve covered the
place within a five mile radius. I don’t think they’ve got any backups hiding
in the alleys.”
I grinned. “Hey, Tati!”
She grinned back. “Hey, M.C.! You gonna rip up some
zombie with us?”
“Uh,” I said, suddenly realizing that I would have
to take part.
“I will worry about M.C. You worry about your
wolves.”
“Alright, alright.” Tatiana vaulted over the
crates.
“And make sure you are conscious of your clothes
when you shift! I am not letting you borrow my cloak again!”
As Tyren crouched back down, I arched an eye brow
at her.
“Werewolves can use the magic they use when they
shift to shift their clothing in to fur. However, they have to be thinking
about it, or they will just rip their clothes right off.” She frowned, and I
could tell this had happened on more than one occasion.
Suddenly, somewhere very close to us, a wolf
howled. The howl was taken up by other wolves. It was long and war like. I
shuddered. “What is that for?”
“It’s a werewolf hunting howl,” Tyren responded
over the din. She stood and checked her pocket watch. “We are going into that
house. They are going to try to kill you. Kill them before they kill you. They
will not show mercy. And stay right next to me.”
Nodding vigorously, I saluted. I was terrified. I
just came to let them know something, not to get involved in a fight. This was
madness, and I was probably going to end up dead, or worse.
---------
You guys know the show “I Dream of Jeannie?” Yeah, well, M.C.
isn’t too clever with his chapter
titles.
So, I thought I had told you all I would be on vacation, and
therefore would not post, but I didn’t, so this is my apology. Sorry, ya’ll.
Well, I’m at the beach.
It’s great, except I was nearly eaten by a shark the other day. Okay,
that’s a lie. It was a sand shark—they’re not aggressive—but it was about four
feet long and five feet in front of me. Most terrifying 30 seconds of my life.
Anyway, so M.C. is dreaming about evil people. Who's the creepy blonde lady? Yikes. And watch out, we may need to find some clothing for them werewolves.
Have a good rest of the week, all!!
P.S. And no, before you ask, all my villianesses are not blonde.
