I felt betrayed. This was no small group. There were
at least fifty people here. Next to the group in the barracks, this was
nothing. Still, if this was “a small group” I did not want to see Henry’s
version of a large group.
After my overly-helpful roommate departed with the
sixth girl he had introduced to me, I stuck my straw in my coffee and sipped it
morosely. This was not a good day.
Suddenly, I shuddered. Remembering something Sai
had said about a mage’s instincts, I surveyed the room. Everything seemed
normal. Then, my eyes jerked back to one man who sat in the corner. He was
staring at me with red eyes.
I quickly looked away, trying not to
hyperventilate. He was definitely a zombie. What was a zombie doing here? He
knew I was a mage. I saw it in his eyes. Did he know I was the mage heir? What
was I thinking? I wasn’t even sure I was the mage heir.
But what if he attacked? I could probably defend
myself, but it would freak people out. I might even end up in jail for murder.
Or in an insane asylum. Or dead. Or worse, expelled.
The door jingled, and for some reason my eyes were
drawn to the new comer. I froze, open-mouthed. This was impossible. An Oriental
man in a sweater and dress pants grinned back at me. “Hello, my young friend.”
“Sai!”
He strode over to me. “Mind if I join you?”
I kicked out a chair for him. “Are you kidding?!
Sit down!”
As he sat, I noticed some grey in his hair. This
wasn’t the Sai of 1888. This was an older Sai—the Sai of my time. This was the
Sai that sent me the watch.
“So, tell me, how have you been?”
I shrugged. “Okay. My roommate thinks I need a
social life.”
Sai grinned. “Well, he has a point. Even I get out
of the lab sometimes. So, what has happened in 1888 thus far?”
“So, you are
the future Sai that sent me the watch, not the 1888 Sai.”
“Sort of.”
“What do you mean, ‘sort of’?”
“Well, I am not quite as future as you think I am.”
I just blinked at him. “Um, what?”
“I will explain later. When you see me, though, do
say hello to me for me.” He then just sat there, grinning at his ability to
confuse the snot out of me.
“So, you’re traveling through time, like I do?”
“Almost. You are correct to say that I am not in my
proper time stream. However, I am living consistently in this time stream. So,
in a way, this is my new time stream.”
I just stared at him.
Grinning, he repeated, “Tell me, what has happened
in 1888?”
“Not much. I’m training as a mage.”
“Ah, excellent! Are you still dreaming about Tyren
and the gang?”
“Sometimes.”
“Anything interesting?”
“Not really. Just everyday stuff. Why? Will I learn
about something interesting in my dreams?”
Sai grinned again. “Just wait and see. Besides, I
exist out of that time, remember? I am not up-to date with that time stream.”
“Is it changing?”
He shrugged. “It might be. Most likely not,
though.”
“So you can’t tell me what happens?”
“Nope. I left before I found out how it ends.”
“What?”
“You will see. Just wait.”
“You’re going to keep telling me that, aren’t you?”
He nodded, grinning.
I sighed. “You are no help. Well, actually, I take
that back. I’m really glad you walked in when you did. There was a zombie
sitting over there. He left when you walked in.”
Sai nodded again. “Yes, I know. I’ve been following
him. There are very few of them in this time stream.”
“So we won.”
“Not yet. Anyway, I have seen several recently.
They are all watching you.”
“That’s freaky.”
“Yes, it might mean that they know who you are.”
I stared at him. “Know who I am? What are you
talking about?”
Sai waved his hand impatiently. “I simply means
that they might know that you are a mage. That is all.”
That was not all, but I could tell from his
expression that I was supposed to drop it. I resisted the urge to look around.
The little hairs on the back of my neck rose, and I knew someone was watching
us.
In one swift movement, he stood. “Well, my young
friend, we shall be in touch. If you ever need any help on homework, feel free
to ask me.” He pulled out a piece of paper with an address on it. “This is
where I am currently residing. Stop by if you ever need anything. Oh!” After
digging around in his pocket for a minute, he pulled out a pair of aviator
goggles. “Take these. They will help you to spot demons easily.
I thanked him and looked at the goggles. There was
no way on earth he was getting me to wear these in public.

Hehehe, I like this chapter.
Notice the HP quote in this one. “Oh worse, expelled.”
Anyway. Sorry I’m late, Chaps, and Chappesses. I was struck
by more lung stuff. My dad, being the helpful doctor that his is, suggested a
lung transplant.
So, what is Future!Sai talking about? That man confuses even
me. Hm…
Have a good week!
