Thoughts on Writing

So, after my friend demanded (she threatened her own death would come about if I did not comply to her wishes) that I continue my short story, I began thinking about all that I had gotten myself into after agreeing to bow to her whims. (note that I would only do something like this for a friend like her)
You see, a person cannot simply sit down and write. It doesn't work that way. First one has to do research. Absolutely no one can not do research unless the person's setting, creatures, objects, and story is entirely made up. I haven't heard of anyone doing that. (weapons have to be researched, J.R.R Tolkien used Anglo-Saxon for his Elvish, etc, etc.) I'm going to have to research the FBI, I guess.
Plus, a person has to develop the characters. They don't just pop up and say, "Hi! I'm Bob. I'm you character. This is my dark and evil past. I'm a really messed up person with a messed up personality. I like kittens." If they did, I would probably frown at them and say, "Oh no, you're not!" and make up something by myself.
Complaining aside, (did I mention she's making me write a comic book of sorts, too?) it's going to be lots of fun. I may have to get up earlier in the morning (no! the sun! It buuuurns us, my precious!) but it will be good for my writing. Plus, I bet I can count it for Creative Writing!! Yesh!
