So, last Sunday was Sanctity of Life Sunday. This poem of sorts popped into my head during church. I scribbled it down real quick before the sermon started.
I’m growing inside her.
Mommy doesn’t want me.
I can’t cry out but,
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
She calls it her right.
Mommy, your rights end
Where mine, your baby’s, begin.
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
She says she has a choice.
She had it when I was conceived.
Must my life pay for your “mistake?”
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
I might have daddy’s eyes,
I might have mommy’s nose.
Let me grow please, mommy, let me grow!
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
You were once like me,
Now I want to grow up like you!
I’m a baby, mommy!
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
My heart beats in tune with yours,
As I grow inside you.
Don’t let my heart grow silent, mommy!
Can’t you hear my heart beating?
Can’t you see that I’m a person, too?
I obviously can't write poetry. That's "free verse" by the way. I love reading poetry though, and I'm supposed to be working on it for Creative Writing.
And yes, I know it's not the first "chapter" of my story, but I'm still working on that.....
C.P. out!
