Chapter Four of the Story

Sherlock was happy to see Elliot when she finally retrieved the dog from her next-door-neighbors. She felt really bad leaving the dog all day. Miss Small had said she could bring Sherlock to the headquarters if she had a special pass. Having already met the dog, Miss Small had guaranteed Elliot one if she wanted it. Maybe she’d bring the dog on Monday and pick up the pass.
She unlocked her apartment and dumped her stuff on the floor with a sigh. After feeding Sherlock, she hunted for the newspaper. Instead of finding it, Elliot noticed that a small box had fallen out of her purse. Frowning, she eyed it. She hadn’t put it there. Maybe it was dangerous. Then, she noticed Sherlock sniffing it and wagging her tail. Jerin must have slipped it in when she wasn’t looking.
Carefully, Elliot opened the box. Inside lay a charm bracelet. It had a silver make-up compact—for her talent—a tent to remind her of their childhood, a dog that resembled Sherlock, a pair of sunglasses—classic spying equipment, and half a heart that said “Be Fri.” She guessed Jerin had the side that said “St End.” The heart was somewhat girly, and the thought of Jerin walking into Claire’s and buying it made her giggle.
Underneath the bracelet was a note. It read:
Thanks for being such an awesome best friend forever. Hug for you. Also, give Sherlock a kiss on the nose for me. You, me, and her will hang out for the ENTIRE day once this assignment’s done, okay? See ya.
Jerin
Elliot grinned and clipped on the bracelet. She couldn’t wait for his assignment to be over.
